Covid 19 help

Action to meet the Emergency Response during lock down due to COVID-9 started 29th March 2020. The team of WDC in concern with the director Sister Betsy made a list of villages of the temporary workers working in Seajuli Tea Garden in North Lakhimpur District in upper Assam.
Ms. Bhagyawati Bhuyan, the Project Director WDC, Guwahati took the initiatives to find out the need assessments & mobilize few leaders of the area & listed 536 households among 6 villages. There was   Felt need & the matter discussed with Deputy Commissioner Lakhimpur to support Emergency Relief during lock-down due to COVID-19. In close collaborations with District administration & District Disaster Manager Authority on 4th April 2020 WDC received Oder from Deputy Commissioner (Dr. Jeevan Basavaraj) IAS, Lakhimpur District but due to unavoidable circumstances DC gave order not proceeded ahead with the relief so WDC hold back.  
 
On 9th April 2020 2nd order received from DC to go forward with the Emergency response. WDC reached out to the most suffering group they are, the laborers those are not having work permanently in the Seajuli Tea Gardens, in Lakhimpur District.
The objective of distribution was to provide aid to ensure basic food with necessary daily needs, sanitary, baby food & medicines to sustain their livelihood for 536 House Holds under Kadam Circle during the lockdown due to COVID-19. Due to limited resources we could manage to reach out only 300 families.
The Programme was supported by ARISE Foundation. Total 300 families were supported.

WDC is grateful to ARISE Foundation, Sister Rose, Deputty Commissioner, DDMA, Lakhimpur District for helping to address COVID-19 Pandemic in reaching out to the most vulnerable with survival food kits which contained rice, dal, soap, Mustard oil, salt, potatoes, onion & biscuits.
