Foundation stone laid for the Common Facility Centre (CFC) of “Gorchiga Traditional Handloom Cluster” Nowboicha Block, North Lakhimpur

With a view to further boosting the work & preserve the traditional crafts of the ‘’Mising Tribe’’, on 8th January 2021, laid the foundation stone of Common Facility Centre of ‘’Gorchiga Traditional Handloom Cluster’’ at Gosanibari village under Nowboicha Block in North Lakhimpur District of Upper Assam.

The cluster is supported by the Ministry of MSME, under the SFURTI project. While laying the foundation stone WDC director Sr. Betsy Devasia informed the women & community that the construction of Common Facility Center’s (CFC) building would be completed before March 31, where modern machines, with the mechanized handloom/Handicrafts products of textiles will be produced through clusters & trainings to upgrade the skills will be imparted.   Once the project is made operational, the artisans of the area will produce their products in the working shed where construction is in progress & also distribution of the machines will be given to selected artisans to make their work easier to double their income.

Sister Annie Varghese the Provincial of the Sisters of the Cross (NER) cum the President of WDC (IA) appreciated & congratulated the WDC team & the all stakeholders involved in implementing the SFURTI project to bring remarkable changes within the artisans which will be leading them to get sustainable livelihood. She laid the foundation stone with a prayer & asked God blessing to help artisans in every activity which they involve collectively. She encouraged the weavers of the areas to promote handloom/handicrafts in both domestic and international markets.

The artisan from the SFURTI project villages could take advantage from the CFC while the maintenance of this Center would be done by SPV (Golden Fingers Farmer Producer Company Ltd. (GFFPCL) under the banner of WDC explained by Ms. Bhagyawati Bhuyan the Project Director WDC. Among those present on the occasion included Sister Dorothy Hajoary , Sister Marina Abraham , Mrs. Deepa Saikia PRI Member, Bhudhar Nath the Village Headman & other invitees along with the Staff of WDC.
